原子力発電所の建設問題は、現地の住人でなければ実感を伴わない分、
ありきたりな想像力で本質を捉えることは困難です。
物理的な因果関係が詳細に判断できないからこそ、外的ではなく、
人間の内面と存在そのものに関わる最も危ぶむべき問題の一つなのです。
日本人の感性は、大らかな自然の中で育まれてきたことも忘れてはなりません。
俳句や短歌といった独特の詩情、
憧憬に導かれる美意識もそれと無関係ではありません。
映画の比重は原発建設に反対する人々の抗議運動ではなく、
そこに流れる時間を選び出すように
目に見えない風と青い海を淡々と映し出します。
祝島に暮らす人々の記録は言葉以上の詩となって
観るものを惹き付けてはやみません。
私たちが文明の恩恵を受けているのは事実ですが、
一度崩れた均衡を元に戻すには厖大な時間と無数の犠牲が必要です。
人間の本質的な営為を譲らないためにも、
祝島の住人たちは1000年単位で世界を捉えています。
